In 1925, the Behrens Brothers built a "gas" station on land that had been purchased at the intersection of 14th Street and Waterloo Road in September of 1924. The station was operated by the Behrens Brothers from 1925 to 1945. At this time a son-in-law, Norris Smith took over management and ownership of the station into the 1960's.

John Rapp began working at the station in 1943, but his employment was interrupted by World War II. He returned later to once again work at the station and to become the manager in 1950. Rapp purchased the station in the 1960's and continued to operate it until May,1990.

The Behrens Brothers--Rapp Station was moved on July 21, 1993 from it's original site at 14th Street and Waterloo Road to the present location at First and Clay. This move was a collaborative effort by the Cedar Falls Historical Society, the Cedar Falls, Tourism and Visitors Bureau and the Trolly Trackers Quester Chapter #1113.
